Household Sector and Housing Market Economist

John Loos is one of South Africa's most experienced housing market economists, with a career spanning National Treasury, Absa Bank, S&P Global, and over two decades at FNB where he built a reputation for producing some of the country's most respected residential and commercial property analysis. In 2004, he was named Reuters Economist of the Year.
In 2026, John embarked on an independent chapter, returning to his core focus: the economics of the household sector and what it means for housing market performance. He also champions what he calls the Economics of Hope, the belief that South Africa's pockets of excellence hold the blueprint for broader economic success.
Beyond the numbers, John is a self-described "social endurance sport junkie", a Comrades finisher, Ironman triathlete, ultra-cyclist, and mountaineer. He brings that same drive to the stage as a keynote speaker and event MC, blending economic insight with energy, optimism, and a few hard-won life lessons.
